Blue Square

The artwork consists of a series of suspended chromatic planes made of translucent glass in different shades of blue. These rectangular forms float in the space between branches, like fragments of suspended sky , creating a visual constellation that transforms the perception of the place.

Here, Valdés activates one of the fundamental principles of his artistic research: the relationship between figure and ground, between the constructed and the natural. Through minimal elements—color, form, light—a subtle alteration is introduced into the landscape. The pieces vibrate with the daylight, filtering and refracting color according to atmospheric conditions, generating a constantly changing perceptual experience.

This early installation already anticipates many of the interests that would later characterize his work: the expansion of perception, geometry as a symbolic language, and the use of art as a mediator between humankind and its environment. The intervention proposes a pause in the natural rhythm of the place, an invitation to look attentively, to reconfigure our way of inhabiting and observing the landscape.

This installation was created during Rachel Valdés's artist residency at the Vermont Studio Center in 2013. It is an ephemeral intervention in the landscape that establishes a sensitive dialogue between geometry, color, and the natural environment.
